Ever since the rebellion of Lucifer in heaven against God and his holy character {Revelation12:7-9}.

Satan’s major work since his rebellion in heaven has been to destroy God’s holy word were we can find the truth. Truth that will lead humanity to freedom from all sin and corruption and to eternal life. From the very beginning of the creation of man Satan has been trying to undermine God ‘s holy word and truth {Genesis 3:1}.

This attack on God’s holy word has been carried on by Satan in many ways through out history.
Roman Emperors Attempted to Destroy the Bible

During the first three centuries some Roman emperors sought to uproot Christianity by destroying the Bible. For example, on February 23, 303 A. D. emperor Diocletian decreed that every copy of the Bible was to be handed over to the Roman police to be burned. Thousands of valuable Biblical manuscripts were burned in public squares. Some Christians lost their lives for refusing to hand over their Bibles.

The aim of the imperial decree was to eliminate the presence of the Christian religion by suppressing its guiding light and normative authority. The reason given by leading philosophers and government officials was that Christianity was largely responsible for the socio-economic crises that were plaguing the empire at that time.

Catholic Attempts to Prevent the Reading of the Bible
Historically the Catholic Church has been opposed to the translation of the Bible in the common languages of the people and to its circulation among the laity. The right to read and teach the Bible was reserved to the clergy.

For example, the Synod of Toulouse in 1229 A. D., presided over by a papal legate, celebrated the close of the Albigensian crusades by perfecting the code of the Inquisition and forbidding lay Christians to possess copies of the Bible. Canon 14 reads: “We prohibit also that the laity should be permitted to have the books of the Old or New Testament; unless anyone from motive of devotion should wish to have the Psalter [Psalms] or the Breviary for divine offices or the hours of the blessed Virgin; but we most strictly forbid their having any translation of these books.” S R. Maitland, Facts and Documents, 1832, pp. 192-194.

A similar decree was promulgated at the Council of Tarragona in A. D. 1234. The Second Canon rules that “No one may possess the books of the Old and New Testaments in the Romance language, and if anyone possesses them he must turn them over to the local bishop within eight days after the promulgation of this decree, so that they may be burned . . .” D. Lortsch, Historie de la Bible en France, 1910, p. 14.

In its fourth session, the Council of Trent (8 April 1546) reiterated the unmistakable Catholic opposition to the distribution of Scriptures by Bible Societies because “It is manifest, from experience, that if the Holy Bible, translated into the vulgar tongue [common language], be indiscriminately allowed to everyone, the temerity of men will cause more evil than good to arise from it”. Loraine Boettner, Roman Catholicism, 1962, p. 97

But Satan’s attempts from burning bibles and prohibiting people from reading the Scriptures through out history failed to stop the word of God from being read by the people. So Satan had come up with a master plan of allowing the people to have possession of Bibles with translations of different new versions that were corrupt that did not lead to the pure true teaching of the word of God but a distortion.

The Old Testament was accepted as one Book. And though the New Testament letters and Gospels were only recently written, churches traded and copied them. And these scrolls were all gathered together in one important city: Antioch of Syria.

The Northern Stream
God’s preserved words in Hebrew and Greek.

Antioch was 310 miles north of Jerusalem. From there came the first Gospel missionary movement.
The Bible tells us that “the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.”These Christian believers collected the holy scriptures and made many copies of them. Soon they were all collected into a single Bible.”
The Greek manuscripts from which the King James Version of Scripture was translated, largely emanated from the Eastern Christian Church. When Constantinople, the headquarters of the Eastern Church, was over-run by the Ottoman Empire in 1453, many Greek scholars fled to the West, bringing with them priceless Greek manuscripts of Scripture. The Eastern Christian Church, particularly that located in Syria, had faithfully copied the manuscripts utilizing a technique similar to that used by the Jews in copying the Old Testament.
It is significant that churches which remain close to the truth of God always preferred Bibles based upon the eastern manuscripts; while those who did not regard biblical authority as final, preferred the western manuscripts. Thus the church at Pella in Palestine, where Christians fled after the fall of Jerusalem, the Syrian church of Antioch, the Italic church of northern Italy, the Gallic of southern France, the Celtic church of Great Britain, and the Waldensians—all had the eastern manuscripts as the basis for their Bibles.
Satan’s Masterplan At Work

There was another city, 317 miles southwest of Jerusalem: Alexandria, Egypt. And in that city the “intellectuals” perverted the words of God. Serious alterations were made by scribes in the city of Alexandria in Egypt. These men were motivated by a desire to support their Gnostic errors, which included the view that Christ was not a member of the Godhead.
The Alexandrian manuscripts, from which the vast majority of modern translations have been made, comprises those from the western Christian Church which had its centers of learning in Alexandria and Rome. The two most famous of these manuscripts are the Codex Vaticanus and the Codex Sinaiticus. Two significant Bibles have been translated from these western manuscripts.
Corrupted Manuscripts Used In The New Modern Bible Translations

The Vaticanus Greek codex gets its name from its location, which is the Vatican Library. It is thought to date from the mid-4th century and to have originated in Egypt.
Vaticanus identifies itself as a product of gnostic corruption in John 1:18, where “the only begotten Son” is changed to “the only begotten God,” thus perpetuating the ancient Arian heresy that disassociates the Son of God Jesus Christ from God Himself by claiming that the Word was not the same as the Son.
In the Received Text John’s Gospel identifies the Son directly with the Word (John 1:1, 18), but by changing “Son” to “God” in verse 18, this direct association is broken in the Vaticanus. John Burgon proved that this reading, which appears in only five Greek manuscripts, could be traced to the heretic Valentinus, who denied the Godhead of Jesus Christ by making a distinction between the Word and the Son of God (Burgon and Miller, Causes of Corruption, pp. 215, 216).

The Sinaiticus codex manuscripts was discovered by Constantine Tischendorf at St. Catherine’s Monastery (Greek Orthodox) at Mt. Sinai. He discovered the first part in 1844 and the second in 1859. In May 1844, on his way to Mt. Sinai, Tischendorf stopped in Rome and had an audience with Pope Gregory XVI. Like Catholicism, the Greek Orthodox Church has a false gospel of grace plus works and sacraments and holds the unscriptural doctrine of venerating relics. St. Catherine’s Monastery has one entire room filled with skulls!
Tischendorf found the Sinaiticus: “In the year 1844, whilst travelling under the patronage of Frederick Augustus, king of Saxony, in quest of manuscripts, Tischendorf reached the Convent of St. Catherine, on Mount Sinai. Here, observing some old-looking documents in a basketful of papers ready for lighting the stove, he picked them out, and discovered that they were forty-three vellum leaves of the Septuagint Version. He was allowed to take these:
But in the desire of saving the other parts of the manuscript of which he heard, he explained their value to the monks, who being now enlightened would only allow him to copy one page, and refused to sell him the rest. On his return he published in 1846 what he had succeeded in getting under the name ‘Codex Frederico-Augustanus,’ inscribed to his benefactor” (Edward Miller, A Guide to the Textual Criticism of the New Testament, p. 24).

Some enemies of the defense of the King James Bible have claimed that the manuscripts were not found in a “waste basket,” but they were. That is exactly how Tischendorf described it. “I perceived a large and wide basket full of old parchments; and the librarian told me that two heaps like this had been already committed to the flames. What was my surprise to find amid this heap of papers…” (Narrative of the Discovery of the Sinaitic Manuscript, p. 23).
John Burgon, who was alive when Tischendorf discovered the Sinaiticus and also personally visited St. Catherine’s to research ancient manuscripts, testified that the manuscripts “got deposited in the waste-paper basket of the Convent” (The Revision Revised, 1883, pp. 319, 342).
A great amount of carelessness is exhibited in the copying and correction. “Codex Sinaiticus ‘abounds with errors of the eye and pen to an extent not indeed unparalleled, but happily rather unusual in documents of first-rate importance.’ On many occasions 10, 20, 30, 40 words are dropped through very carelessness.

Letters and words, even whole sentences, are frequently written twice over, or begun and immediately cancelled; while that gross blunder, whereby a clause is omitted because it happens to end in the same words as the clause preceding, occurs no less than 115 times in the New Testament” (John Burgon, The Revision Revised).
It is clear that the scribes who copied the Sinaiticus were not faithful men of God who treated the Scriptures with utmost reverence. The total number of words omitted in Aleph in the Gospels alone is 3,455 compared with the Greek Received Text (Burgon, p. 75).
Clear evidence that these manuscripts were copied by scribes who disregarded the elementary techniques of their art, it should not surprise us that the modern translations of Scripture based upon these manuscripts are greatly faulted.
We must not overlook the fact, however, that such defective manuscripts amply support the Roman Catholic church claim that the church is the sole source of doctrinal truth. If our Bible is corrupted, then men will have to seek elsewhere to find full truth.

Satan found himself a soldier that he could use to war against God’s holy word of truth and to control the world. That soldier was Ignatius of Loyola who devoted himself to serve the Roman Catholic church and made a oath to destroy the Protestant Reformation.
“Ignatius had learned how to brainwash volunteers into serving him. He did this with his tiny little book entitled, Spiritual Exercises. In it a “director” rules the recruit’s life, including heavenly visions—even his breathing! Ignatius met with just fellow students and two of them became his top guys: Salmeron and Lainez” “Loyola named his band of loyal Catholics: THE SOCIETY OF JESUS, OR “THE JESUITS “. The Secret History of the Jesuits, by Edmond Paris (English translation, 1975).

“The Vatican feared Ignatius. He kept building up his forces. They had only two options: Kill him and all Jesuits, or make a deal with him. Loyola had survived four Inquisitions. He wanted to serve the pope.”
“Just 2 years after the founding of the Jesuit order, their “missionaries” started to cover the globe, wreaking havoc wherever they went. Soon they divided their rule into six nations of the world: ITALY, GERMANY, FRANCE, SPAIN,
The Jesuits didn’t mind various Catholic versions of the Bible—they themselves made the Rheims-Douay! But they hated one Bible with a bloodthirsty passion: THE KING JAMES BIBLE! They vowed to destroy it.”

Two men began to do the dirty work the Jesuits to produce a corrupt new Revised Version of the English Bible.

These two men were Brooke Foss Westcott (1825-1901) and Fenton John Anthony Hort (1828-1892) these men devised the basis for the 20th-century attempt to replace the King James Bible with inferior new translations.

We find much information about these two men in two books: The Life and Letters of Brooke Foss Westcott, Vols. 1-2, by his son Arthur Westcott (1903), and The Life and Letters of Fenton John Anthony Hort, Vols. 1-2, by his son Arthur Fenton Hort.
Westcott and Hort had a secret love for Catholicism.

Westcott wrote from France to his fiancée about his fascination for the Catholic doctrine of Mariolatry (Mary worship).

“I could have knelt there for hours.”—Op. cit., Vol. 1, p. 81.
Later he wrote:

“I wish I could see to what forgotten truth
Mariolatry bears witness.”—Op. cit., Vol. 1, p. 251.
Anthony Hort was also a secret Mary worshiper.

“I have been persuaded for many years that Mary worship and ‘Jesus’ worship have very much in common in their causes and results.”—Life of Hort, Vol. 2, p. 49.

Anthony Hort believed that many of the things in the Bible were myths.
“I am inclined to think that no such state as ‘Eden’ (I mean the popular notion) ever existed, and that Adam’s fall in no degree differed from the fall of each of his descendants.”—Op. cit., Vol. 1, p. 78.

Westcott fully agreed.

“No one now, I suppose, holds that the first
three chapters of Genesis, for example, give a literal history.”—Life of Westcott, Vol. 2, p. 69.
Prior to Westcott and Hort, all translations of the Bible had been made from the Majority Text (the Received Text, or Textus Receptus, good manuscripts). Because of their influence, all translations since then (from 1881 onward) have been based on the Sinaiticus / Vaticanus the corrupt manuscripts.

It is through the influence of Jesuit-inspired version of Scripture which has, in the latter half of the twentieth century, prevailed through the plethora of modern translations foisted upon present-day Christians. From the failure of the Douay Version has risen the success of the New International Version and similar other modern versions.
The King of English Bibles
On July 25th, 1603 James VI began ruling both England and Scotland. Protestant James had to steer a course between the Puritans on one side and the Roman Catholics on the other, with the “Church of England.
Puritans had approached James with a petition, signed by 1000 pastors. They wanted a time to address their grievances to the king. So James set the date: January 1604, at Hampton Court.

Bishop Bancroft of London led the other bishops, denying every one of the Puritans’ requests. But when Puritan John Rainolds proposed a new and completely accurate Bible, King James was in total agreement! Bishop Bancroft was angry, but not stupid. He listened to his king. This event has been admitted by BF Westcott in A General View of the History of the English Bible (NY: Macmillan Pub. Co.,1868, 1927), p. 108.

Robert Catesby, whose priest was a Jesuit leader, had previously conspired against Queen Elizabeth. Now he got together a band of friends and relatives to kill King James, along with most of the Parliament (the ruling body of England). We know it as the Gunpowder Plot.
The plan was to dig a hole underneath the Parliament building, stuff all the gunpowder in, blow up Parliament, kidnap James’ daughter Elizabeth, kill his other kids, and make Elizabeth into a Catholic queen!

But Once again the Jesuits failed. They couldn’t blow up Parliament or get a Catholic as ruler. So the Bible committees were able to work without hindrance.
In 1609 the Jesuits knew God’s English Bible was almost finished. So they quickly made their move and published their complete Rheims-Douay Bible. But it was no use!
Because in 1611 the most important event happened: GOD’S PRESERVED WORDS were published, perfectly translated into English! Soon King James held THE BOOK— which English-speakers know as “The Bible,” “The Authorized Version” or simply The King James Bible.
King James’ Bible became the words of God used by virtually everybody—even the Pilgrims!

In 1625 King James died James’ son Charles I came to the throne. He was nominally a Protestant, but a real pushover. His wife was a Roman Catholic—a spy for the Vatican. She actually perverted friends into Catholicism in her own chapel! But that wasn’t all: Their lifestyle was so expensive that they almost emptied England’s treasury!

Charles I was desperate, so in 1629 he called on Parliament to give him more spending money.

The Bible Societies

National Bible Societies have proliferated. The British and Foreign Bible Society has become a model for other such societies all over the world. We can but applaud the work of many of these societies in providing the Word of God, in many tongues, distributed by the millions.

But recent trends give cause for alarm, for now most of these societies have become agents for ecumenism. Many Scriptures now distributed by these societies are those approved by the Roman Catholic Church. Such Bibles are always based upon the corrupted Greek manu- scripts beloved of Rome, and they also contain the uninspired books of the Apocrypha.

The Roman Catholic Church failed to stop the work of the Protestant Bible Societies, the Roman Catholic Church now appears to support them. The United Bible Societies (UBS), an organization which includes both the British and Foreign Bible Society and the American Bible Society, along with most other national Bible Societies, has encouraged Roman Catholic partici- pation in joint evangelistic services, joint prayer sessions for Christian unity, and participation in local church councils and organizations.

In 1966 the British and Foreign Bible Society amended its constitu- tion to permit the inclusion of the Apocrypha in versions which it distributed. The American Bible Society and most other national societies followed the British lead.
In 1986 the British and Foreign Bible Society issued a catalogue of English-language Bibles and New Testaments published by the society. In this catalogue were included the Jerusalem Bible, which the catalogue correctly states to be the work of Roman Catholic scholars, three editions of the New American Bible which is accurately stated to be an American Catholic translation, an edition of the Revised Standard Version containing the Apocrypha, the New Jerusalem Bible, and the Good News Bible containing the Apocrypha and which the catalogue claims is stamped with the imprimatur of Basil, Cardinal Hume, then Roman Catholic archbishop of Westminster.

Corrupt Paraphrases of Scripture From New Bible Versions
It is popular in Christian circles to use new translation versions of the bibles which are a form of the Bible but is no longer a translation of the original manuscripts of the bible but rather a paraphrase.
The use of paraphrases of Holy Writ has no place in the worship of
sincere Christians. They are totally without value, for they replace in- spired testimony with man’s foolishness.

Here are a couple of examples

The defects of The Living Bible are manifold. Only a few examples have been cited in evidence. Paraphrases should have no place in private or congregational worship, for they seriously distort the Word of God. It is a matter of serious spiritual danger to utilize a false Scripture, for Satan will certainly seize the opportunity to distort God’s truth if we do so.
